The updated version (v1.2), of the HAMKit VDAS ATV boards have just arrived and ready for population and testing which will be done this weekend.
HAMKit VDAS (Video Detect and Audio Squelch), is a small board that simply detects video sync (taken from an ATV receiver for example), and then un-mutes the through audio only on a valid video source.
The original R&D version worked really well. However, I needed to make a small tweak to the board (silly error on the FET connections) and a slight improvement for squelch tail timing. In the process of board update, the orange boards have now turned blue.
On test, the Video Sync detect worked reliably, even with noisy signal. Switching in and out of through audio was clean and had more than enough attenuation plus squelch line for TX worked a treat.
These boards can be easily hung on the back of an ATV receiver. Great for receiver such as the Comtech and saves the unwanted noise on no signal. With the increasing use of the FPV 5 GHz video receivers for ATV, the HAMKit VDAS boards make a good companion.
An additional feature of the HAMKit VDAS board is that it also has a squelch detect FET output for other uses such as repeater TX PTT, LED etc.
Connections are taken out to the mini JST 6 pin socket and supplied cable.
4-SQL Output (LED, PTT, Relay etc)
3-Video In (parallel to the BNC input)
1-+6.5v to 16v DC In
The BNC connector can be directly exchanged for an RCA version, if required, as the design includes dual mounting holes on the board to accommodate different manufacturers.
The board is designed to fit perfectly inside a Hammond 1551USB2TSK USB Case (not currently supplied). All that is required is a hole for the BNC or RCA connector.
